21 Jul 2009The 40th anniversary of the first landing on the moon in July 1969 filled me with sadness. It was not my memory of the event itself that saddened me. On the contrary, it was a phenomenal achievement and entirely worthy of celebration. It was that within a few years of the first moon landing the world had entered a new era of pessimism. Striving to achieve great things came to be widely seen as pointless or even dangerous.
We could do with recapturing the spirit of adventure exemplified by the Apollo programme.
