Oxford recession debate

This Wednesday evening at 8pm I will be at Queen’s College in Oxford discussing the recession with Oliver James, the author of Affluenza, and Chris Talbot of the Socialist Equality Party. The meeting is organised by Oxford University’s Current Affairs Society.

The event will focus on three questions:

1) Who, if anyone, is to blame for the recession?

2) Can a recession ever be “good” for us? Does it lead to a beneficial and much-needed revaluation of our “consumer society”?

3) What are the key lessons we should learn from the recession to avoid it recurring in the future?

I reviewed Oliver James’ Affluenza on spiked in February 2007 The Selfish Capitalist on spiked a year later.
