22 Jul 2010The latest survey from the Pew Global Attitudes Project suggests that many people see China’s growing economy as problematic (fourth table down). Some 47% of Americans, 42% of Britons and 58% of Germans see China’s growing economy as a bad thing. Several other countries also feel threatened by China’s economic rise including Turkey (60%), India (56%) and South Korea (49%).
Those that feel least threatened by China include Pakistan (5%), Kenya (6%) and Nigeria (5%).
If there is good news it is that concerns over China have fallen in the two years since the last survey (fifth table down). In Mexico the drop is 14 percentage points, in Jordan 13 percentage points and in America six percentage points.
