10 Dec 2009Dennis Meadows, on of the authors of the landmark 1972 report on The Limits to Growth, tells Der Spiegel in an interview that personal sacrifice is the only way to tackle climate change: “I don’t ask for it but I say if we don’t change our behavior then we will be in serious trouble. People are getting sidetracked if they think that new green technology will solve all the problems. There is no magic button. It is about our lifestyles.” He also joins the Malthusians in calling for substantial cuts in the world’s population.
Given that the predictions in his 1972 book proved abysmally inaccurate his arguments probably should not be taken too seriously. However, that did not stop him from claiming they were “amazingly good”.
